What to do with Christmas dinner leftovers

6 years ago by Lor

It’s easy to get carried away catering for your loved ones at Christmas. You end up asking yourself questions that you wouldn’t do normally when cooking for others like, “Is this turkey big enough?”, “Maybe I should buy a few more potatoes” and “I’ll pick up some more snacks for people to nibble on throughout the day.”

The fact is, and this might come as a surprise to some families out there, people do not eat much more than they normally do on Christmas Day than they do throughout the year!

We hate to see food go to waste and sometimes you just don’t want to eat a huge roast dinner three days in a row so we thought we’d share some ideas about what to do with your Christmas Day leftovers.

Make a pie

Anything in pastry works for us so making a pie from your leftovers is one of the most sensible things you could do. We love this recipe from Waitrose which incorporates all the meat and veg you might be cooking on Christmas Day.

Create a curry

Why not change cuisines altogether and take your tastebuds to Asia. The pastes you can pick up from any supermarket make it super quick and easy to make your preferred curry. We like this suggestion from BBC Good Food to use up your left over turkey and potato.

Go French with a croque-monsieur

This isn’t just any old turkey sandwich. The addition of cheese and mustard, and then baking, make this Bruno Loubet recipe on the Jamie Oliver website deliciously rich to continue the festive season’s indulgences.

Rustle up a risotto

Fancy something healthy but tasty, warm and filling? This risotto from Slimming World on Good to Know could be the perfect Boxing Day recipe for you.

Prepare a pasty

If you’ve got a bit of time on your hands and up for a challenge then try making your own pastry to impress your family with homemade Cornish pasties from the Food Network! Swap the traditional filling with your leftover turkey and ham, you’ll be onto a winner.
