Virgin Wines is currently running a fantastic offer on a case of 12 handcrafted wines; at only £4.99 a bottle plus free next-day delivery you’ll be able to enjoy stunning spring wines at a fraction of the price!
To celebrate the offer, which appears on the Win a Dinner homepage, here are our recommendations for which types of wine best match your favourite takeaway.
Pizza
Go red, go light and go Italian! Red fruit is a great pairing with tomatoes and cuts through the cheese, it also matches perfectly with any meaty toppings. Choose a Chianti, Pinot Noir or Barbera
Indian
The hotter the curry, the harder it is to choose a wine to match but no matter the spice, a fruity white or rosé is your best bet. Pick an off-dry Riesling from Germany, Austria, Australia or New Zealand. If rosé is more your style, then go Spanish, Portuguese or South American.
Chinese
The varied nature of Chinese cuisine means that you need a wine that can handle a huge combination of flavours. The consensus in the wine world tends to be a German Riesling because of its sweet acidity which can cut through the often fatty of fried foods.
Fish & chips
It’s tradition to eat fish and chips with champagne on the first night in a new home and there’s a reason for that! Sparkling wine goes fabulously with deep-fried foods, but if champers is a bit too extravagant for a normal Friday night, a Cava or Prosecco will also do the job.
Next time you have a takeaway put away the beer and reach for the vino instead!
